Its Original Name Was Herberg.
The original German name of the castle—Hörberg, Herberch, or Herberg—indicates the building’s age, as it refers to a shelter where soldiers sought refuge in times of danger or a simple roadside sanctuary, common along medieval roads.
The current name, Podsreda, has no connection to its original name. It likely refers to the market and court days held in the settlement below the castle.
A Venue for Many Events.
Podsreda Castle comes alive, especially during the warmer months, when numerous events take place. The castle is particularly vibrant on warm summer evenings, when the courtyard, beneath its mighty arches, hosts concerts by renowned Slovenian and international musicians as part of the “Musical Summer” program.
