Skaza House in Šmarje pri Jelšah is a remarkable example of beautifully designed market-town architecture from the
second half of the 19th century. The old house, where the first post office in the town operated as early as 1850,
has preserved only its cellar. It was built in a simple rural style at the end of the 18th century, while the new
house reflected the owner’s dedication to design and architecture of that time. This house was home to the Slovenian
patriot, national awakener, patron, and leader of progress in Šmarje pri Jelšah – Franc Skaza, to whom the permanent
Skaza local exhibition is dedicated.

As part of the exhibition, visitors can also explore the TIC – Tourist Information Center and a shop with souvenirs
and local products. Additionally, the house features the Šmarje Wine Cellar, which is ideal for wine tastings and
catering events.
